The Nease Spot

These days, I go into movies half expecting them to be terrible, half hoping they will be great.  Despicable me easily fell on the “great” side of the line for me! Not only was it entertaining, it was (for lack of a better phrase) a very sweet movie.

Despicable me follows self-proclaimed villain Gru (Steve Carell) whose hopes of being the greatest villain in the world are being challenged by an unknown new and younger super villain who has apparently stolen the great Pyramid of Giza! Refusing to be one-upped by having his villainous reputation destroyed, Gru sets out to prove that he still has what it takes to be the greatest villain this world has ever seen.

With such a rich (and very funny) voice cast, the makers of this film did such a phenomenal job mixing humor, story and character development.  The humor in this film reminds me of classic TV shows “The Adams Family” and “The Munsters” with Gru’s tall, dark house sitting in a normal suburban neighborhood, Gru’s “evil” facade merely being a cover-up for who he really is, a very kind-hearted yet wounded older guy.

I saw “Despicable Me” in Eye Flattering 2D, and I give it two thumbs up.  I would be proud to own this movie (which is saying a lot in the age of Netflix).
